Among thousands of submissions, she was awarded first place in the category of Photo Manipulation and Illustration. This portrait demonstrates her skill as it was a slow shutter speed portrait in which she only edited slightly for exposure. The light streaks were created with an LED light strip. 🌟 Exciting News from the Oklahoma Scholastic Media Day! 🌟 Last Tuesday, Yukon High School celebrated our talented student journalists at Oklahoma Scholastic Media (OSM) Day, and we are thrilled to highlight the achievements of all our award winners (please see graphic)! A special shoutout to two of our individual award winners: 📸 Zoey VanGordon, who was named Photographer of the Year for Newspaper. Out of all the submissions across the state, Zoey's stunning photo portfolio came out on top! 🎥 Jack Dever received the inaugural Jack Dever Scholastic Short-Form Documentary Award for his outstanding documentary, "The Faces of Radio." This award recognizes the innovative spirit of student journalism in the form of storytelling, and we are proud to say it's named in Jack's honor! This award is now one of only five individual awards at OSM. The judges determined that this is a form of storytelling that they want to push in the future and as a result of being a pioneer in this form of student journalism, the award was named in his honor and has solidified his name in the history of student journalism in Oklahoma. Both Zoey and Jack are ranked among the top five student journalists in our state! If you see them and any of our talented student journalists around, please extend your congratulations. 🏆🤖 Celebrating Stellar Robotics Success at the 2023-2024 Oklahoma TSA State Competition VEX IQ! 🤖🏆 What an exceptional showing by our students from Lakeview and Independence Intermediate schools at this year's competition! Learning about fractions with pizza! 📏🧀 Decond graders at Surrey Hills Elementary wrapped up their fractions unit with a delicious twist, transforming their classroom into Fractiononi's Pizzeria for a day of interactive math fun! This past weekend, history was made by the immensely talented Yukon High School Varsity Winter Guard Team at the WGI World Championships in Dayton, Ohio. 🏆✨ In their debut appearance on this prestigious international platform, our team not only showcased their exceptional skills and dedication but also set new records that will be remembered for years to come! From an impressive pool of 117 teams in the Scholastic A class, our winter guard advanced to the semi-finals, securing a spot in the top 56. But they didn't stop there! With sheer determination and an awe-inspiring performance, they made it all the way to the finals, ranking them among the top 20 teams. 🎶🚩 Their journey culminated in achieving the 13th place in the nation, marking Yukon High School Varsity Guard as the highest-ranked Scholastic A WGI guard in the state of Oklahoma! 🥇💪 Let’s take a moment to celebrate their incredible firsts this year: (1) Triumphing at WGI Tulsa Regionals with a 1st place victory in just their third finals appearance. 🏅 (2) Making an unforgettable impact at the WGI Super Regional in Denton, Texas, earning a 6th place in only their second performance. 🔥 (3) Attending the WGI World Championships for the first time and advancing to semifinals and finals. 🌍 (4) Securing the 13th rank in the nation among all Scholastic A class schools acriss the nation.
