Not related to New Jersey or weather, but something cool is happening in the skies today over the Indian Ocean, near northwestern Australia...a small asteroid has been detected and is expected to burn up in the atmosphere in that location at around 12:07 pm EDT.

Model guidance suggesting some brief, scattered showers could hit coastal areas of New Jersey between 7 am and 2 pm Sunday, moving north to south. #njwx
We have some showers popping up along the coast and in Central Jersey that mesoscale model guidance isn't seeing. That should clear up by mid-morning.
Hmm…radar showing some showers developing west of Pottsville, PA, and tracking southeast. There is more rain behind it in Central PA. And now the Weather Prediction Center shows a big chunk of South Jersey — everything south of Route 72 if it extended all the way from LBI to Burlington — at risk of 2-4” rainfall overnight with flash flooding possible. #njwx
That cell made it into New Jersey, still severe-warned...but it was just canceled as I was about to post this. There are currently no severe-warned storms in New Jersey.
Well, we have a severe thunderstorm warning until 1:15 a.m. EDT for Hunterdon and Warren counties in NW New Jersey, but the cell is still in PA. #njwx
Welp. Maybe I spoke too soon. A few cells are trying to fire up west of Allentown, PA. There is still untapped energy aloft ahead of this, so these could blossom as they track east-southeast. #njwx
The one severe-warned cell in NE PA that had a chance to move into NW New Jersey has collapsed. Radar shows some cells tracking north of the state and strong-to-severe cells tracking south of the state. Second image is 1 a.m. on the 01z HRRR showing 1 or 2 strong cells in South Jersey. Third image is same time on the 00z RRFS showing a decent line of storms in Central and South Jersey. Based on current radar, HRRR solution looks more viable. Just don’t see much happening tonight. #njwx

Hmm...the 18z NAM has the cluster of storms near the PA/NY border dropping more south-southeast than tracking toward North Jersey. And the storms out in western PA pretty much dropping south into Maryland, which is what they appear to be doing. The mesoscale models really aren’t showing much in the way of storms for most of New Jersey. Maybe from around Trenton down through SW NJ? That might be it. I’ll keep an eye on it, but we might be getting lucky. #njwx
So at 4 pm EDT, we now have severe-warned cells in NW Pennsylvania while the latest NAM, HRRR and RRFS runs aren't really showing anything there at 4 pm. That means a) storms are developing ahead of model guidance, and b) there is a chance of storms firing up ahead of this emerging line as it tracks east-southeast. #njwx
Nothing on radar around here, but models like the HRRR and RRFS are starting to sniff out some storms around the region in the 7-9 pm timeframe ahead of the overnight line so we need to keep watching the radar to see if storms start firing up over the next couple of hours. #njwx
And the SPC has expanded the SLIGHT risk area for severe weather later tonight north and east. #njwx
Here comes the sun...aka storm fuel. But model guidance isn't really seeing any storms approaching New Jersey until the midnight-2 am timeframe. There would be plenty of instability around at 1 am, according to the HRRR. If you look at the significant tornado parameter, you'll see a decent signature around the I-95 corridor from Wilmington to Trenton and then along I-195 out to the Jersey Shore around 7 pm. IF we get some storms in that timeframe, there could be problems. #njwx
The Storm Prediction Center has expanded the slight (level 2/5) severe risk into southwestern New Jersey, but I think it should have been extended more into Bucks County, PA, and Central Jersey, at least (something more in line with my edit to the graphic below). #njwx
WPC says overnight rain and storms could produce 1.5"-2"/hour rain rates for an additional 2"-3" totals in northern and western New Jersey, including Philly metro, Trenton area, and New Brunswick. Flash flooding possible. #njwx
Starting to get concerned that these storms may still be strong and/or severe by the time they reach New Jersey during the overnight hours. While there isn't much surface instability, there is unstable air aloft and that could be enough to keep these elevated. #njwx
